Hi all! Well, it is coming up on summer and many of us will be taking vacations. A lot of you will probably be taking your hounds with you but some of us aren't so I have a question...
We will probably be going to the Bahamas this summer for about a week. Of course, Lillian can't go with us. So, we have found a really nice person to keep her while we are gone (she volunteers for basset rescue and has several hounds of her own). She has met Lily before and Lily really liked her. I actually called her to get recommendations for a sitter but she surprised me and very generously offered to keep her while we are gone!
My question is, how do I make the transition as easy as possible on Lillian? What should I take with her when she goes to her vacation home?

We have only left ours a couple of times. Most times my grandson comes and stays here with them. So no big deal. We have kenneled them twice. We took their beds, a favorite toy, and a t shirt of mine for them to have our scent while we were gone. We have had great success when kenneling and the kennel owners just LOVE the hounds. We even paid and extra 5 bucks a day for one on one playtime. Our friends just laugh at us. They wanted to know if the hounds would tell us if they didn't get the playtime paid for. Oh well, it made me feel better anyway ;D

We are left at home with our Mom's two legger (they call him our brother) and Mom's daughter and husband stop by at lunch time when they go away.... Most of the time it is only for a day or two. This year they plan on taking us camping at the beach - gotta watch those ticks though - sea grasses are loaded with them! Mom also has a pet sitter come in and take us for walks occasionally. ( like when the oldest got married last fall, and they hired her to come and walk us several times during the day and to play) There are loads of kids around, but we are very strong and make Mom look silly if we decide to run ( only when we see other dogs or people of course) so local kids are not an option.
Have a great day......Love L and E

I have a kid in the neighborhood that comes to care for the cats but since Lillian is so sensitive to being alone and the fact that she isn't house trained yet makes me wanna have a full time care giver for her. I have heard so many horrible stories about kennels and petsitters that I want to steer clear of them as much as possible. I know there are good ones out there, I am just too much of a scaredy cat to try it! LOL.
