Today, my husband and I had to go to a memorial service. Since we were going to have to go out of state for it, we decided to bring our Basset, Gus, and have him hang out at my sister-in-law's house while we were all gone. Bad, bad idea... Gus and his cousins (a 9 month old Saint Bernard, a 2 year old pound puppy mutt, and 5 cats) had 4 hours alone to tear up the house. When we came home, there was a speaker overturned, a plant emptied of its dirt, a mangled and now empty tin of doggie breathmints, and all sorts of other stuff strewn about the room. This was his first time left alone and I was kind of worried. I guess he's just not ready for all of that excitement!

OH NO I bet they had a blast while you were gone. Kinda like a kid in a candy store. SO SORRY! Who cleaned up?

Yes but they had really sweet smelling breath didn't they! haha..
Let's just blame it all on the Saint Bernard. You know what trouble makers them kind can be! ;D

My sister-in-law vacuumed while I changed out of my funeral clothes. She said she kind of figured that would happen. Her 2 pooches have messed up the place before, though not for a while. Gus is kind of like a bull in a china shop, so I'm sure he was running all over the place. He sure tuckered himself out though. After his 4 hour home destruction, all 3 doggies got to go to grandma's house. Grandma's also got a pooch, so all 4 of them romped around the pond and went for a walk in the woods (Gus was the only one leashed, because he's the only one we don't trust not to follow his nose off the trail). My sister-in-law might bring her 2 up our way tomorrow to go to the park, but somehow, I doubt it will happen. Her Saint already has hip problems, so I doubt she's going to be up to a trip to the park after all of her playing today. Then, after Gus plays really hard, he usually sleeps for the next 2 days. I bet my money on everyone being too tired to tromp through the park tomorrow.

I guess on the bright side, you had something to take your mind off of the funeral. I hope you weren't too mad at the pooch----blame it on the others!

Nah... None of us were mad at any of them. Heck, when I was 6, I squashed Play-Doh into my brother's bedroom carpet. How could we expect our home alone puppies not to make a mess?

You remember when you was 6? Gus is a pretty puppy. You have any pictures you can show us?

I have been afraid to leave Lily..lol. I think I would come home to torn up antique dining room chairs, a destroyed area rug and no couches to speak of! Most of the other stuff is puppy and baby proof.
They must have had so much fun playing together! I always feel guilty when I have to take Lily home from a play date. She is so sad and whines the whole way home.

Gus whines the whole way there. I imagine he's going, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" He usually sleeps the whole way home. He's really good at home, by himself. I think he'd be okay in someone else's home, by himself. But put him together with other exciteable youngsters, and it's a recipe for disaster...
