Today is the two year anniversary of Basil coming into my life. I re-read what I wrote about him last year and even now, I am amazed at how much he has changed since then. The past year has been pretty turbulent and very hard on both of them, but Basil has taken it in stride and is still just as happy as can be. Despite his past and coming to me skinny, scared and nervous, he has grown into such a fun, loveable, outspoken hound. I am so proud of him. He has grown and developed such a wonderful personality in just the past few months and I am so lucky that he is a part of my life. When he is hungry, he demands to be fed: When he has had enough of your drama, he tells you to go away: When he is tired, he flops down right there on floor but keeps an eye open for any trouble he might be able to get into: When you are cold at night, he has no problem keeping your bed warm, whether you are in it or not: He is tolerant: He accepts you, no matter what your differences are: Best of all, he waits for you to come home and greets you as you have never been greeted before: Happy Gotcha Day and Happy 4th “Birthday” Buppy! I love you!

Basil says thanks to everyone. He had a pretty good gotcha day, if you ask me. I don't keep meat in the house since I'm a vegetarian so I took a cue from JoAnn and picked up some cheeseburgers on the way home. They all got cheeseburgers, then got to hang out in the yard in the nice, abnormally cool Texas weather. While they were out there, I made a cake for Basil and dinner for us humans. After we ate dinner, all the dogs came in and we had cake!! My friend was there too and he asked for a piece of cake thinking it would be funny. I gave him a piece and turned around to cut more and he said, "WOW, this is good!!" I couldn't eat any cake.. It just did not appeal to me.

I have to ask - what kind of cake did you bake???

I am not sure what kind of cake you would call it.. Maybe peanut butter/honey/carrot cake?? It was very easy to make. 1 cup flour, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 egg, 1/4 cup peanut butter, 1/3 cup honey and about 2 carrots (shredded, of course). I baked it in a bundt pan and when I took it out, I drizzled a little bit of honey over the top instead of having a frosting and apparently it was very tasty.
I told my friend that I would make him one for his birthday!

Hmmm....I think my dogs would like it better than I would. No offense - I just don't like peanut butter! Unamerican, what can I say....
Glad the 2 and 4-leggers enjoyed it!
