Hi hi hi, everyone!!! Brand new to the board, but a past frequent member of some of the others.... I'm Libby of NW Oklahoma <<wavin'>> Hiya' Lonnie!! It's been a while since I've posted anywhere but I wanted to pop in and introduce a new lil' buddy of mine.... This.............. is Joey...
I'm guessing that baby Joey is about 4 months old. I have to guess, seeing as how I found this lil' darlin' at a local animal shelter..... and I simply HAD to bring him home. (even though we recently welcomed FOURTEEN new basset babies into our already large family of FIVE Bassets, 1 Giant Schnauzer, 2 cats & 5 small human critters!) This lil' guy was in SUCH bad shape!! It broke my heart to see him there.... 11 hours and counting until he was to be "put down".... sooooooo, home we went.... we gave him the "what for" with the wormer, puppy shots, antibiotics, flea & tick control and a complete head to tail workover. He has put on quite a bit of weight since we've had him (only 2 weeks) but is still quite thin. (we're certain that FOOD is the reason he's fallen as in love with us as we are with him!) As much as we would love to make this sweetie a permanent resident with us, it just can't be.... so I'd like to get the word out that baby Joey is in need of a new life-long home! He's a great little boy, loves the kids, wild about the canine playmates and is very interested in the cats! It would seem that Joey has had a very rough beginning... not only due to the lack of physical care, but he is quite timid and tends to cower at quick movements. He could have been pysically abused as well. BUT.......... he's fast realizing that he'll not be hurt by any of us and the tail wags more and more every day!! So that's that..... we're in NW Oklahoma and I'll do my best travel-wise to get him wherever he needs to be.... sooooooooo.... "CALLING ALL ANGELS"!! Please help Joey find his humans!! I'll post more later and update on the family here... (did I mention FOURTEEN NEW BABIES?) Till next time............ slobbery drool to all!! ~Libby

HI LIBBY! Now just about everyone is here! Makes me so happy. Just waiting on Val if anyone can find her?
Joey is so Gorgeous! Really love the colors. I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would abandon him? If I live to be a 100 I will never understand people?
Libby got a zoo.. Libby got a zoo.. haha.. Such a nice thing you have done! I’ll see if I can help get the word out for you?

That was a cute story Libby! (or come back I should say?) ;D It actually made for a good “Adopt Me” poster in a way?
I'm waiting for my Domain Name to come back online then I can build a page for Joey and post it on Southern Bassets.
I'll send out an email to the some 300 addresses I have on Basset Owners this weekend. Maybe we can find someone. He needs a new home soon so that he's not settling in and being bounced around?
So Warning People! If you get an Email on Joey and already know from this post just egnore me cuz I don't know who is who these days!

Awww, thanks again Lonnie, I know that will be of a great help. Yep, you're right, Joey's already rolling around with the new babies (when Mamas aren't looking) and getting pretty attached to the other houndmates. He loves US for food, but I think has a genuine attachment to the four-legged clan members, so hopefully we can get him into his forever home soon so it's not that much more heartbreaking when he goes.
Here's some quick pics of the brand new babes...
Vinnie & Chloe's babies - (the Vet X-ray's said 6... SURPRISE!!! 8 !!) - (born 4/23) Forrest & Isabella's babies: (6!! ALL boys 'sept for one lil' baby girl) - (born 4/20)

Joey's such a sweetie. Hope he finds the forever home he so much deserves, and fast! Wish I could take him in. It always breaks my heart to hear these stories about abandoned bassets. The puppies are little cutie-pies too You sure have your hands full! Would love to see updated pics of the puppies as they grow up Mary

Well, it's been a few weeks now and Baby Joey is still with us. Although we are havin' a great time with him, we are still seeking his forever home. There has been a little bit of local interest, but they just didn't seem to suit this lil' guy.
One family lives in the city, with two children in a small apartment... no yard for Joey and no way to keep him from following his nose should he happen to get out alone. (I just keep picturin' him wanderin' around the streets & all the traffic! ACK!)
Another "prospect" was a man who Joey seemed to adore on sight! There was a large yard, fenced in - lots of grandkids to play with, 4 cats to chase and a poodle playmate!! He was perfect!!
Or so we thought.............. when I started tellin' the guy about the vet follow-ups and dates his next shots/worming, etc. were due and giving him contact information for the vet.... the man told me that he DOESN'T BELIEVE IN VET CARE!!!!!!!
Doesn't believe in VET CARE??? WHOOOOOOOO in their right mind, doesn't BELIEVE IN VET CARE? Ugh!!!
He says he gives his own rabies shots (which is NOT recognized by the city, county or state unless the animal has been immunized by a registered Vet). And he says that's the only shot his animals have ever had... says they need that "with all the rabid skunks 'round these parts"..... "but they don't need any of that other crap, it's just a way for the Vets to make money", he says!!
Sheesh!!! Sorry....... thanks for comin' by, I'm sure you're a nice guy, but ..... NO FRIGGIN' WAY ARE YOU GETTIN' MY BABY!!!!
<sigh> Soooo, we're still waiting!
Can you BELIEVE some people? I asked him what he does when his animals get sick..... he says they had a couple dogs in the past and he "had to put them down"..... (with a .22 no doubt, seeing as he doesn't go to the vet).
Sooooooooo, here we are... if anyone can provide or knows of a loving forever home for Baby Joey, please contact us... either here on the board or via e-mail at LibbyLuvsBassets@aol.com.
Thanks for the ears!!
