Well, I was supposed to take Lillian in for her spaying and I freaked out the night before! We were going to take her to the SPCA since they only charge $37 to spay but I started thinking of all of the things that could go wrong, and how I didn't know anyone there and didn't know if they would care for her and I just coudn't do it! I even started to cry . So my husband said, "If you are going to freak out, we will just pay the extra and take her to Dr. George." I felt such a relief! At least there she knows everyone and so do I. And they all just love to see her. They ask me to bring her with me when I take my kitties in for their appointments just so they can visit with her. So now she has an appointment for te 17th. I am NOT gonna chicken out this time! LOL. I feel like such a BABY!

You are NOT a baby...just a sign that you're a GREAT momma! Both Mowgli & Baloo went to the St. Louis Humane Society for spaying...I felt the same way you did, but hubby insisted. He actually knew the vet (volunteers a day a week there) so all was good. I was sooo nervous though because they weren't at the regular vet. Hubby said if I wanted TWO BASSETS we had to cut corners somewhere...ug! He did agree for any illnesses or problems I could go to my regular vet. Anyway...I kid you not...they didn't even notice A THING! Mowgli was a little tired, but Baloo was totally fine from the second we picked her up that afternoon. I actually had to force her to be calm....she wanted to run and play as if nothing had ever happened! If I didn't actually see the stitches I wouldn't have believed it! Best of luck to you...and don't worry...all will be just fine!

I know how you feel, it is a little scary but Lili will be fine. Lexie didn't even act like she had stitches. In fact, I had a hard time keeping her calm.

Dont feel bad about freaking out betty, most of us are the same, when ever any of my bassets are at the the vets for any type of op I cant work , Im looking at the clock all day waiting for the time to go back to pick them up , ringing the vet to see how they are going, in all having a bad hair day and a compete nervy turn all day, so dont feel you are any different and I am a male who should act indifferent but I dont. The only thing I hate with the neutering is the aftereffect of the anesthetic. With Susie, I think they let us pick her up too early, we had her in the front yard (it was a nice day) for a while in the sunshine of a beautiful late spring day, and she just kept whining with that horrible high pitched sound... she was just still wobbly and high. She was about 6 or 8 months old as I recall.
With Sam, I left him an hour or so longer at the vet's than when they said to get him, and he just laid around and slept and gave us those red pig eyes, and his was much worse, 'cuz he was like 4 years old and they were "quite attached" as the vet put it.

Thank you so much everyone for helping me to feel like I am at least SEMI-normal..lol. I won't be backing out of it next time as I know it is important to have it done since we definantly DON'T want to breed and it is all around better for her health. I just might have to have my hubby take her in though because I don't want to have to say goodbye even for a day.
