I am desperately trying to find a new home for my Basset "Sam". I am in the Jackson Area. I want Sam to go to a home with other Bassets where he can be loved and appreciated. Any Advise...?

Well, to start, what state are you in? Why do you want to find him a new home? Is he having "issues"? Are you moving? If you could give some details, we might be able to make some suggestions. Take care

Thanks for Posting Tucker. It's true what BassetPup asked.. But even if Sam is simply more then you expected then please let us know. It happens to the best of us, so no shame there. But we will need a few details in order to help. Also. . . How old is he Has Sam been fixed. . . Has he grown up around children and other pets? Do you have a picture? That may help someone fall in love with Sam and HAVE to have him! Can you tell us about his personality? This is the place to ask! Everyone will do their best to find Sam a good home.

I am in Jackson, Mississippi. I have a 5- month old Son and 6 pets total. I am currently going through a Divorce and am having to stay with parents. My animals are scattered about and my husband is trying to destroy me! (Without sounding too dramatic, .) I will hopefully have money in about 3 months to move into a house. I have to find homes for a couple of my animals. I cannot take care of all of them and my son by myself? My Shih Tzu is 100% Blind, Plus one of my cats is currently pregnant!! (It is technically my husband's, but he no longer wants her) I have my hands full and my pets are suffering. Sam is a Wonderful Basset and extremely loving. He is an outside dog and is very very hiper! He wants to be spoiled, but unfortunately I cannot give him the attention he needs! He is about 3 1/2 years old and is not neutered. He is registered, but papers cannot be located at this time. I love him very much, but he deserves more than a 8- foot pin. help?

Thank you so much Tucker. And I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. Sounds like you all need a good home. And we promise we will do everything we can to help Sam out. I live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi Although I am unable to take on any more Bassets myself, I do know a few Basset Lovers here along the coast that I will get ahold of for Sam. As far as posting a picture, I'm sure one of us could post it for you if you send it to them? My Hosting Servers are not available right now (that's why some of the pictures on here are missing!) The board is a bit slow right now but keep checking in please and give us a chance before you take other measures with Sam. Thanks Again for Posting this!

Thank you for posting that Joann. I was also going to suggest a rescue. If she can find him a home with a friend or another Basset lover before she goes to rescue, that would be great as most rescues are pretty full. But Rescue is the way to go over and above the shelter or just putting an add in the paper!

I thank you to everyone that is trying to help. A rescue is a last resort for Sam. I would always wonder where he would end up and if he was happy, etc. I would like to know he is good hands! There is a family in Iowa that said they would take him in. They have (3) other bassets and live on a farm, but I have to get him there. It is really hard considering everything going on. Also it takes money and that is definitely something I don't have! That's why I decided to post this in more of a Southern atmosphere. Hopefully someone closer is looking for a good dog. He is hiper though and definitely needs someone with patience and time. Thanks again to everyone

I understand your dilemma, but keep in mind if you do go with a rescue they will do their best to place your hound in a wonderful environment. A contract will be signed with the new owners stating that if it doesn't work out he would be returned ONLY to rescue. Therefore you know he will not go to a shelter. Rescues will also do home checks to see the environment he would be living in and visit with the family to see if they are ready for a busy houndie. We do our best to find the BEST home for all our rescues. I hope you can find somone close to take him, but let your heart rest easy if you must involve a rescue. They will do what is in Sam's best interest.

Mid America Basset rescue is very full right now, but my best friend is one of intake coordinators and serves South East Missouri, Kansas, I know she has coordinated rescues into Iowa as well. Her name is Dani. Just tell her I sent you to her. Here is her email
