It has seemed that Lily has been so sad lately. I don't know what I can do to make happier besides adding another basset to the family which we just can't do right now. Any suggestions on how to maker her happier? I snuggle and play with her on and off all day long and my son plays with her constantly at least 1 hour at a time several times a day. We spend lots of time with her but it doesn't seem like enough.

Is she really sad?, or just giving you that "woe is me basset look" Seems to me she has you right where she wants you. You know how those Basset Eyes can make us melt.
sung to Betty Davis Eyes
They've Got Those Basset Eyes
Their hair is always "blow'n" Their personalities will surprise Their legs could use some grow'n They've got those basset eyes
They'll turn that charm upon you You won't have to think twice They're pure as yellow snow They've got those basset eyes
And then they"ll tease you They'll unease you All the better just to please you They're such clowners nope no downers They'll give out heavy sighs They've got those basset eyes
They'll make you take them home And show their appetite We put them on a throne They've got those bassset eyes
They make you stumble And melt your heart like ice You'll feel like "Mr Bumble" They've got those basset eyes
They'll expose you , when they know you And down the street they'll drag you
They're precociuos and they know just What it takes to make us all blush
They just make us want to sigh They've got those basset eyes.

That song is hilarious!! I am gonna print it out and hang it next to the desk..lol. I don't think she is sick, she still runs around like a maniac when Avery plays with her. It just seems she has been kind of moping around since she went to play with Lulu. I think she really just needs another basset playmate. Either that, or she does have us wrapped around her paw!

It just may be that? At least you're at home with Lily during the day so that should help a lot. Bassets HAVE to be with someone. Another pet or human pets Their Pack animals and are never happy to be left alone. Us getting two at the same time was the best thing in the world for EVERYONE. Maybe you should get another? Just don't tell hubby we told you to!

Well, he wants another he just wants the timing to be right and since he is gone all the time, it just never is. I have been getting really frustrated and am about to just say, hey, I want to do this now since Lily is so lonely. I know we play with her all the time but she needs another doggy to play with.

It makes a huge difference and does not even take away from the attention they give to you? If anything then it's X's 2
Atleast Lily has you and Ally. I doubt she's very lonely

This week is spring break and Avery slept on the couch last night. I let Lily out of her crate and she went strait to the couch and jumped on him and was licking his face. Her hind end was going 100 miles a second! She just had to lick her boy before she went potty or had breakfast! LOL.

That's cute I can see the whole thing! I bet Avery was a tad bit less excited over the whole thing as Lily?

At first he was little annoyed but then got into the spirit of it. ;D I mean, who can resist doggie kisses?

Is there a dog run in your town that you could take her to? Or a friendly neighbor with a dog she could play with? That way she could get doggie playtime without you having to get another dog right away.

There is a Basset down the street that Lily just loves. She has the greatest time when she plays and gets so sad when they drop her back off at home. I would love to have Lulu over to play here more often but our yard isn't fenced. Lulu also goes to doggy day care on Wednesday to play and they rave about it. I have been thinking of taking Lily to try it out while Lulu is there so that there is a doggie that she knows. It is pretty expensive

Just figure what doggie day care would cost you for six months. Fly it by hubby and get yourself another. 2 really is easier to handle than 1. A litlle more expensive on the yearly vet checks etc, but well worth it.

we noticed that too, we got our two together and it has been wonderful. they eat together, sleep together, play together, and poop together. i think it has really helped them stay out of mischief because they have each other...not that they still dont get into mischief, but i know they will chase each other til they fall over. i had a dog a few years ago that went to the bridge(not a basset), but it has actually been easier for me to have to 2 of them then a single, cause they always have each other. on the sad basset note. my emma gets "the blahs". she gets very mopey and sighs a lot and wants me to hold her constantly. sometimes it happens at home, but it really happens when i have to take her to work with me and she has to sleep on a blanket...not her pillow throne. she is obsessive about her bedding. so lily may be going through sadness, or the Blahs. if you are ever in kc, you can bring her over and my girls will run her all over our house...she will sleep for days.

Yearly vet visits around her are already outrageous with three cats and Lily..lol. Our babies are the most expensive things in the house! One of the cats has racked up about $2000+ on his own in the last two years. . It is the only thing that my husband will spend money on and not complain about! He is pretty tight but his animals get everything they could ever want or need including special food, treats, toys, beds, a huge cat house, I mean EVERYTHING. Lillian even has different collars and leashes for different "moods". SUCKER! LOL.
