Answer: NOPE He tried...........and he tried hard. This was taken while camping in Fort Bragg, CA this past summer. My best friend brought her four labs with us to play at the beach. Roy had not a clue what he was doing but "dog gone it" he was gonna keep up anyway. We laughed harder that day than we ever have. You can barely see Roy right smack dab in the middle. All five dogs were chasing one orange throwie. Labs won every time, bassets have a tough time swimming to begin with but Roy's ear just sank. Roy gave up!!!!!!!!!! ~ Karrie and crew

Aw, how cute! He looks so dejected in that last picture. "Mom, I didn't get to catch it. " One of my friends has a boxer/heeler mix. They brought him over to play with ours. Sophie hated him and didn't want anything to do with him, but Basil loved him!! He could not run as fast as Apollo, but that didn't stop him. He would try to jump up and grab Apollo's ears and Apollo would just jump over Basil. It was a scene out of "Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jumped over the basset hound"

Jenn ~ Makes me laugh just to picture it.
I just noticed that you are from Richardson, TX. Where exactly it that? I was born and raised in Blanco, TX. Tiny town north east of San Antonio.
After the last picture was taken he promptly laid down and had a blast rolling in the sand. He did however learn a life long lesson after that trip to the beach....test the water before taking a big gulp. Nasty sea water did not set well on the belly, and we got a second view. No lasting effects though.

Richardson is about.. Well, I'm not sure how many miles it is, but I'm about 20 minutes from downtown Dallas. Not too far from San Antonio! I haven't been to San Antonio in ages though. I want to go back and go to the Riverwalk. Yuck for sea water. I bet it was the salt that got to him. We give our dogs salt when we want to make them throw up instead of peroxide (I don't know why, but I have issues with giving them peroxide). Poor puppy.

Flash can keep up with Ernest, our Golden. She is on his heels when we play fetch, and if they tree something she actually out runs him. She is a VERY active basset though.
I love the pic. At least he got in the water.Thats more than what Kelli's basset LuLu did! LOL

We have a lab too and he loves water! Baxter really likes it to but everyone else would never get their feet wet. They love to run with him but he could run circles around them. He loves them so much he well get down to their level and let them lick and climb all over him. Really liked your pictures ,Roy has some long ears,he is very handsome.

Oh yeah Roy has long ears, I should measure them. Hmmm, I think if I can get him to sit still long enough I will. Hold tight let's try.
That was fun!!! Then again it could be the wine talking. However they are 9 1/2 inches. It's alot of work to keep them clean. They are constantly getting caked with goo that has to be chiseled off. Not to mention with the wet weather we are having I spend more time trying to keep them dry than I do anything else.
I wonder what Maggies are? She won't let me near her with the ruler.

Do it while she's sleeping! I made an attempt to measure my hounds once. Needless to say, it was a complete disaster and a total failure. They just don't want to do what I want them to do.

To the best of my ability I'm reading that Maggie's ears are 8 1/4 inches.
