My friend is having a problem with a dog she got from the Humane Society about a month ago. The dog eats his last meal around 4:00 and at 5:00 the next morning throws up orange stuff each morning. The dog is with them all night and does not seem ill in any way.
She is calling the vet today but I thought I would post a message incase anyone had any other suggestions or history similar.
The dog was a stray prior to being rescued.

Sounds like he needs something to eat just prior to bedtime. I have had mine throw up if their stomachs are empty, as have other people. Usually a bedtime snack takes care of the problem. If not, then there might definitely be a problem, so a vet visit would be in order.

Same advice here. Give the pup a small meal or a treat before he goes to bed and give him a treat when he wakes up. The orange stuff is most likely stomach acid. That's what Sophie was throwing up when we had her spayed. It was about the color of mustard, only a little bit orange-ier.

I would have to say the same thing. I would try bread or crackers, like the zero sodium saltines just before bed and when the dog wakes up. Let it settle before moving too much.
Let us know what the vet says.....

The vet said to give him something to eat before bed. It worked. Thanks everyone!

Did the vet give a specific reason or just empty belly syndrom?

No except some dogs (and people) throw up when their stomachs are empty. I do remember it has something to do with the stomach acids.
