Ok, I'm new to this board. But I'm not a new Basset Owner. I've owned Bassets for years. And I'm getting a new one in a about 8 or 9 weeks. For some reason, this time its so hard picking a name. I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a female.... and I have several names picked out, but I'd like to know how ya'll come up with names for your Bassets. Here are the Basset names I've used in the past Polly Droops Fred Lucy Belle I also had a Mini Daschund named Daisy Mae. She got ran over about 3 weeks ago Thanks ya'll!! Amanda

Hey ya from California, welcome to the board. I am fairly new here too.
As for names we decided when we brought them home. We have a female, Maggie, and a male , Roy.
Other names we had for other breeds are Shiela, Miss mae, Spaz (he was), Buddy. As a kid we had Toe tacker, Sampson, and Two socks. My friend has labs named: Hooch, Abby, Dozer (dozed off while eating), Buddy, and Chika.

Welcome to the board! I'm Jenn, slave to Sophie and Basil (pronounced bah (as in "bat") zil.. The way the English pronounce it!) When we got Sophie, I had decided that I wanted a cute, girly name to fit a cute, girly basset. When we picked her up, she was just so small and had that adorable little puppy belly and Sophie fit her. Now, she is an absolute terror and not very girlish at all. We should have named her Killer. Basil is a rescue. He was found wandering the streets of Houston, TX and we had him transported to the DFW area to us. The lady that found him named him Basil (pronounced "baysul"), but we didn't really like that name. Chris and I talked about it for a couple of weeks before we got him and decided we would keep his name the same but pronounce it differently because we didn't want to confuse him more than he was already going to be. He has a bunch of friends from the UK, so we decided to go with their pronunciation. What really sealed the deal is that the guy who brought him to us said that when he picked Basil up, he couldn't bring himself to call him a herb, so he had actually started saying Basil's name with the english pronunciation. We decided it was fate and kept it that way. There was no confusion at all with him! Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on, lol. Here are some names for pets we've had in the past as well as pets that some of my closest family members have: Tigger Tom (kitty, lol) Sheba (Rottweiler-mix) - Sheba from the Bible Charcoal (blue chow.. I loved this dog, I miss her so much ) Nanook (Husky mix) Dutchess (Husky mix, but it would be a great name for a regal Basset hound.. Bernard (Chihuahua) Jewels (Lhaso Apso) Buster (Chihuahua) Pepper (black lab) Thor (German Shepherd) Porkchop (black lab puppy) Maxi (Rottweiler/maybe lab mix) Chase, Milo (shih tzus) Tazzy (blue heeler mix, she was originally named Abby but she reminded my mom too much of Taz the Tasmanian Devil, lol) Destiny (pit bull mix) There have been a few bassets in our family too.. My cousin has one named Bailey (she is Sophie's cousin or sister or something from another litter), my uncle had one named Daisy, but she managed to get out of the yard and got hit by a car, now he has two. One named Abby and one named Scout. I got carried away again.. I hope that helps or gives you some ideas.
