Betty...thank you so much!! I truly worry about this with Mowgli & Baloo, and my husband thinks I am being paranoid. UNTIL...we heard a story on the news last night about a dog dying of bloat. Our dogs tend to eat and then want to run around. Every time I run out there and stop them I get the "you are sooo overprotective of those dogs..." This article indicates I might need to switch foods?? What do you feed Lillian?

I am currently feeding her Nutro Natural Large Breed Puppy Food. Dry only. She also gets her daily allotment divided between two meals along with one tablespoon of nonfat yogurt WITH ACTIVE CULTURES with her evening meal. I was feeding her Bil Jac but switched only because I found a great deal on the Nutro at the commisary.

Thank you Betty for the link----I am a worry wort and bloat is something that concerns me. Since Lexie is my first, I wasn't sure what I could do to avoid this from happening. Lexie will no longer get water with her food. Thank you, you may have saved my Lexie's life!

Hi everyone - Can't stress enough that everyone should educate themselves on this health issue of bloat. I had never heard of it until our 2nd Basset, Molly, 13 at the time, got bloat at 4 am one morning, and went to the bridge a short 2 hours later.... I had no idea what was wrong with her, nor did anyone in the family! The absolute worst thing in the world! Since we brought Lucy and Ethel home (10 weeks old), I have been accused of being paranoid also, as I safeguard them the best I can against this ever happening. After they eat, they have a rest time for at least an hour - either in the kitchen or their crate.... We offer them water after that and then anytime they want it. If they get rambunctious after the meal, then we say, okay girls - to the crate - The look is priceless, but they go right in. I also have a printout in my kitchen for all to see, so if it is not me feeding the girls, the information is there. I never want to go through that experience again, believe me.
