Basil is literally the only male dog I have ever owned, so I have some questions about when he goes out to pee.
I know male dogs don't empty their bladder all at once. I learned that before I got Basil (thankfully, or I would have thought there was something wrong with him!), but when he goes to the restroom, he can stay in one spot for an extended period of time and it doesn't all come out at once. He just squirts it out, much like he does when he is marking something, only he just hangs out there until he is ready to move on. Is this normal? It doesn't seem to hurt him and he does not seem uncomfortable (unless Sophie pulls him in the other direction and then he is not very happy).. But with his previous bladder problems, I worry that it's not normal and I need to be taking him to the vet. Please tell me I am not crazy and that I do not need to shell out another $1K that I do not have on more tests!

I'm not quite sure I understand the question, but Elvis & Dart will stay in one spot for a while until they decide they are finished. They also occassionally get distracted part way through.
I learned the hard way to give them plenty of time to finish their business. Saves on accidents in the house!

Ben is a "get down to business" kind of guy. Linus on the other hand takes his time and he too stops and starts. Linus just is a "stop and smell the roses" kind of hound

Thanks guys, that does answer my question. I think I was just a little overly paranoid since he hasn't had any accidents inside at all since we have lived here (knock on wood!). I always have to have something to worry about.

Both of mine are/were get down to business boys. They would go a little in one spot then run to another and go some more. And so on and so forth. I think Basil just like to take his time.
