Update on the child molestation case

I just thought I would let you guys know what is going on now.. They were both released from jail (somehow they managed to post bond) and were re-arrested on Tuesday. Here is an article from the Dallas Morning News website.

A North Dallas couple is facing federal charges after being accused of having sex with the woman's 13-year-old female cousin and photographing it.

On Wednesday, authorities unsealed a federal complaint against Douglas Meyers, 45, a Dallas insurance agent, and his girlfriend of three years, Amanda Jenson, 20, a former stripper who also was arrested on prostitution charges in Dallas in 2004.

They were arraigned on charges of enticing a minor to engage in sexual conduct and photographing it using an Olympus camera made in Japan, a violation of federal law because the camera was "shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce," according to the complaint.

They also face several related state charges, including four counts each of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two charges each of possession with intent to promote child pornography.

Attorney Peter Barrett said his client, Mr. Meyers, "is a genuine good person who got caught up in some problems that spiraled out of control."

Authorities said the photos were found at the couple's home among other images of what police believe could be child pornography.

Mr. Barrett said images that authorities say they seized from Mr. Meyers' home may not be illegal. "We're contesting that that's child pornography," he said.

Ms. Jenson's attorney could not be reached for comment.

Mr. Meyers and Ms. Jenson were arrested on the state charges twice before, on May 5 and May 21. They were taken into custody a third time Tuesday and turned over Wednesday to the Secret Service, which is investigating the federal case, officials said.

Dallas police raided Mr. Meyers' $350,000 home on Royal Lane near Hillcrest Road on May 4 and confiscated computer equipment containing explicit images of children, including Ms. Jenson's underage cousin.

Earlier May 4, the girl told investigators that sometime in March, she "had sexual contact with her cousin Jenson and Jenson's boyfriend, Meyers, during a weekend visit to their residence," according to the federal complaint.

The girl said Mr. Meyers assaulted her while Ms. Jenson took photos, according to the complaint.

The girl's boyfriend saw the explicit images on their computer and alerted police. The girl's family told investigators that Mr. Meyers "was aware of the victim's age and that she was missing school to spend the weekend with him and [Ms. Jenson]," according to the federal complaint.

Records show that Mr. Meyers received deferred adjudication on two 1999 charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both out of Plano. Both charges were dismissed.

An answering machine at Mr. Meyers' insurance office in the 4500 block of West Lovers Lane said that another agent was handling his cases."

This guy is NOT a good person and child molestation isn't something that spirals out of control.

I just hope they don't jump bail - they deserve a very long time behind bars.

I know how painful this must be for you, my heart goes out to the little girl, those alful people have hurt so many . They have so much evidence against them I feel sure they well spend time in jail for this and thankfully ,everyone well know about them and keep there children away from them, if they get out of prison.

THANK YOU!! Who in their right mind calls this man a good person?! I have half a mind to e-mail the person who wrote this story and ask him to publish something from me! Of course, that might ruin my mom's chances of getting her money back from him, so I better not. Did I ever update about that? My mom took him to court to get an order to keep him from spending any of his money because he owes her $192K from the divorce settlement plus another $258K when he retires (which he can still get even if he is in jail). His lawyer posted $100K of his own money out of his own pocket to get Doug out of jail. I do not understand it

What worries me the most is in this article, his lawyer says they are going to prove those pictures were not pornography after he has put up the money for Doug's bail. I am worried that they have something up their sleeves and Doug or both of them will go free. I do not understand how his lawyer can do that without somehow having the means to prove he is innocent (even though I know he is not).

What also makes me mad about him saying Doug is a "genuine good person" is that Doug is NOT a genuine good person!! He is an alcoholic, he has been hiding things and lying to my mom for years. When I went to FL for vacation with them a couple years ago, the morning we left to fly back to Dallas, he was mixing himself a drink at 8 AM (that is 7 AM local time)!!

This lawyer also seems to be forgetting about:

- Doug's assault charge from 1999. In that case, he pointed a gun at another motorist while driving down the Dallas North Tollway on New Years Eve. Yes, it was a loaded gun. Yes, this other motorist was being a jackass and instigated it, but Doug could have picked up his cell phone and called the police rather than pulling out a loaded gun and spending the night in jail.
- The lawyer is forgetting about the 2003 investigation by the FBI on Doug for visiting a child pornography site (oh yes, this is not his first run-in with child porn) that was dropped. That investigation was so bad, Doug was telling my mom that if something happened and he was going to be arrested, he would commit suicide. He had plans laid out for her telling her what to do and how to keep the business in case something like that happened. It was a BIG DEAL. He insisted he was innocent and so my mom stood by his side. We just found out recently that this site was a well known child pornography site, not a site where adults were made to look like minors (which he claimed they were and claimed he thought they were 18+).

There are several other situations that just recently came to light (i.e. Amanda was a minor when her 2004 prostitution charges were filed, Doug bought a car for someone a few years ago and no one in my family, not even my mom, knew about this car or knows who he bought it for) and I won't go into it, but my goodness. I know people supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but with this much evidence and this much insight into his personal character, how can he not be guilty? I am so frustrated with this whole situation.

I told Chris that I would like to go to the trial if it is open to the public. He said, "Are you sure? They will have to show the evidence during the trial and it is likely you will have to see some disturbing stuff." I said, "Yes, I still want to go. I do not have to see anything I don't want to see and since I am deaf, closing my eyes is essentially closing my ears!"

They were also talking about the case on a local sports radio show this morning. I haven't looked up the transcript or anything, but there was supposedly some not very nice things said about them. I thought it was pretty ironic because Doug used to listen to this station all the time and even has t-shirts from their events.

LOL Kristol, I agree! Maybe we can slap them with another couple of public indecency charges while they are being hung. It can't hurt at this point, can it?

Well, the lawyer has to do what is "best" for his client no matter who else gets hurt. I am amazed, though, that he put up the bail money. That sucks and is NOT called for.

I don't blame you for wanting to go to the trial, although parts of it could be difficult. I just pray you are there when they say "GUILTY!".

I gets me in this judicial system in American is that they let the one who are guilty go and then the people who are innocent they frame them or harass them. This man and woman are clearly guilty . I just don't understand the system.

Reading this story just breaks my heart. How sad for the little girl involved. And how sad for your family, Jenn.
