You all know what a character Sophie is, right? Well, I have been pretty busy lately. I was out on Saturday night and got home at about midnight. I let the dogs out to go potty, then got their food bowls ready and let them back in. Basil went straight for his bowl but Sophie didn't really seem to care too much about her food. I sat down on the floor with her and she ate, but it took her a very long time. I sent Chris a text and said, "Sophie is sick, she is taking too long to eat." (I know you guys understand how I came to that conclusion. : She finished eating and not even 5 minutes later, she is throwing it up. There was a lot of grass in it, so I thought it had upset her stomach and did not think much of it. A little while later, I gave them a treat and she could not keep that down either. I was a little bit worried, but figured she was just still upset from eating the grass. The dogs and I slept in the living room that night (OK, so I fell asleep watching TV!).
Sunday morning rolls around and Sophie is still not acting right. She is lethargic, has no interest in eating or drinking, can't hold anything down when she does eat or drink and doesn't even want to jump up on a chair or couch. It is just too much effort for her. I think, "Great, I am going to have to take her to the emergency vet." I started worrying that she had a blockage because she had gotten into the trash on Thursday night and I was afraid she had eaten a piece of plastic bag or something. I had to get some stuff together for a cookout, so I was in the kitchen cutting up vegetables. Basil stood guard and Sophie was nowhere to be found. She finally came into the dining room and just laid there watching me. I accidently dropped a piece of vegetable and she didn't move. That was when I decided she was definitely sick and started to get even more worried. A few minutes later, she gets up, walks sloooooowly into the kitchen, picks up the vegetable I dropped, slooooowly walks back to the dining room, puts it in the floor and lays down next to it. OK, now I know for sure something is wrong. She had absolutely no interest in eating anything and only a minimal interest in stealing it. I left shortly afterwards and put her in her crate so she could rest and not get into anything. She refused to eat her dinner when I got back home, so I put it up.
Monday morning, Sophie is wagging her tail again and gets up on the bed and couches without any problem or hesitation, but still refuses to eat and is hesitant to take a treat. I leave for work, but had a busy and bad day so was unable to call the vet. I get home from work and am greeted by Sophie whining from her crate. It is the first time I have heard her make any noises since Saturday night and I let both of them out of their crates. They run outside and potty while I get their food together. I let them back in and Sophie makes a mad dash for her food bowl. She is so hungry after not eating for so long, I have to take the food away from her and feed her by hand so that she does not make herself sick from eating it so fast. SHE DID NOT THROW IT BACK UP! She held down a treat and a ton of water too!
She went table surfing after I cleared my food off to see if I had accidently left anything for her up there. I turned around and said, "Excuse me, have you ever been allowed to do that?" and she gave me a look that very clearly said, "Excuse me, does it look like I take orders from you??" Yep, she is back to normal.
