Our 13 year old basset, Elvis, had just been diagnosed with a tumor on his lung. At this point, he's still fairly comfortable. We feel that it's not right to put an older dog like this through really aggressive treatment, but we certainly want to make him as comfortable as possible for what time he has left. Do any of you follow hound lovers know of any holistic type things we could try on him that wouldn't be so hard on him?

Hey BassetsRule, I’m so sorry to hear about Elvis and I must agree with you on your choice to find a Holistic cure for your baby.
What you need to do is find a vet who is a member of the AHVMA (American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association) Holistic vets believe that your dog can resist and overcome many health problems when given whatever is necessary to strengthen his immune system.
Wellness-from-within will be promoted above all else. * Fresh foods and supplements to build the immune system * Limited vaccinations (a major stress to the immune system) * Limited exposure to chemicals (another major stress to the immune system) * When ill, supporting the immune system with medicinal herbs, vitamins and minerals, enzymes and antioxidants, chiropractic manipulation, accupuncture, homeopathy, and common-sense supportive care * Antibiotics and other drugs when absolutely necessary
I would also recommend the book “The Nature of Animal Healing” The Definitive Holistic Medicine Guide to Caring for Your Dog and Cat by Martin Goldstein D.V.M.
I wish you all the best! Lonnie
