Hi this is Debby, Boomers Mom Boomer is 6 months old and he is our first basset. Health wise we have done everything as scheduled including cleaning his ears once a week. We brush his teeth about every 2 weeks. I have been reading today that it should be more often, yeah try and tell that to Boomer Anyway, i think he now has a cavity. I just find it hard to believe he has a cavity already as he has chew toys designed to help stop dental problems, I haven't totally neglected his teeth and he doesn't eat any sweets. Do Bassets generally have dental problems? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No dental is not something that Bassets are prone to? First thing I thought was sweets but you rulled that out. And with you brushing his teeth, his toys and I'm sure you give him biscuits as well then there should be no reason for the cavity?
I'm lost on that one! Anyone have any ideas?

He does get buiscits as well. I have an appointment with his vet on Monday, I guess we'll figure it out then. I thought he had all of his baby teeth out, maybe he doesn't but even so it is abit weird.
Thanks Deb

Oh my stars, I can't imagine trying to brush Lexie's teeth. I thought I was doing good with a bath each week and trimming toe nails. How do you do it? Does it taste good to them?

That's the age boomer was when he started losing teeth. He just turned 6 months old. I think the one i am talking about is a baby tooth, I hope. Will check with the vet. Have a great day Deb
