hi fellow basset lovers. I wonder if anyone can help? My 3yr old basset developed a small cloudy sphere on one of his eyes 12 months ago, which two vets said was "probably a scratch" from a prod he might received. That was OK until now as I have noticed something similar on his other eye! Does anyone have any experience of this?? Many thanks - Humphrey

Wow that's really hard to say and I don't want to even guess at it?
I would suggest that since it's developed in the other eye that you take him back to the vet to be tested?
Wish I was more help but if it was one eye I could tell you a dozen different things that could cause it? But both eyes I don't know?

My brother's lab had a problem where her eye lashes grew in toward the eye instead of like they are supposed to. The lashes scratched her eys so bad that she ended up having surgery to make them grow the right way. Just a thought.
Welcome to the board and we hope to have you on the good side and not the health side. Please jump in and introdice yourself. We are a happy group of people that love our hounds!

Doesn't cloudy in the eye mean possible Glacoma? I would take her back. If it is Galcoma it's treatable. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the prompt replies. Yes, I think I will take him back to the vet because it's not worth taking any chances with glaucoma. Thanks again - will keep you posted.

I'm not sure if you ever resolved this and i'm new to the board so apologies if it's taken care of. Our 14 year old developed, upon many things, ulcers in his eyes. Started with clouds on one and then the other, not glaucoma related at all, which is what we initially thought. He underwent surgery to remove the ulcers and is seeing better, for a now 15 year old.

Hello again. Sorry about the delay in updating you on the eye problem situation. Got another vet to check him over, and in his opinion the clouds are basically harmless ;D although most likely permanent. Can't remember exact medical term for it. I doubt it's an ulcer - wouldn't the vets have detected it? and he has the first one quite some time now. Thanks Bustermom - I will keep it in mind though

See if there is a canine eye specialist in your area, not just a vet. We took ours to one, and after we thought it was glaucoma it turned out to be ulcers and buster needed them scraped off of his eyes. You need to catch these types of problem asap so you don't risk your pups eyesight.
