hola i don't post much I've7 month old basset who started limping first on his front right foot this week... he has been jumping off my bed( i know bad bad momma) and id assumed that was the cause... nothing in the paw pads or anything like that not obvious tenderness either i saw that his nails were a tiny bit long so after a day or two0( i had to go buy new clippers as my old ones just aren't cutting it for his nails) we cut his nails... however in these 2 days he started limping a bit on his back foot same side and now holds his front foot i a position i can only describe as lame usually this is only when he is hobbling across the couch
i was thinking it was a combination of needing a trim and the jumping from my bed but since he is having a problem with both the front and back foot om at a loss
I'm going to schedule a round of xrays to check him out but i dint have much faith in the vets in my area to be honest... are there specific things i should ask about maybe??
any thought would be awesome
thanks loads Dottie and Bandit

Hi there, The one thing that maybe you could ask the vet about is the possibility of pano (panosteitis), sometimes referred to as "wandering lameness". There are a couple threads about that very thing right now in the general section too. It could very well be that Bandit is suffering from this, although I'm by no means a wealth of knowledge on this kind of thing. Pano does not seem to be all that uncommon in bassets.
I hope your baby feels all better and the vet can figure out what's causing his limping!

All three of my Bassett's limped on and off at that age. It was about the same time I noticed their feet growing out. The first one I had x-rayed but he was fine. The vet said it's common in Bassetts at this age. As long as he was not in obvious pain I did not worry about it. It seemed to go on and off for a few months and then went away for good.
An x-ray and vet visit to be sure is the best thing but if they find nothing wrong I would not worry about it.

Harley is really bad about that when his nails get long. Then it takes 2 - 3 days after they are trimmed for him to stop limping.
I'm guessing that is the problem?

I have a 15 month old Basset boy name Rufus.
He has just started to limp on his right front leg. We took him to the Vet man and he did a blood test for Valley Fever. But he eats and is still active.
Help could it just be a bruise paws..
Any advise would be great.
Thank you

tlgolf, check out the thread on the main board about Panosteitis (sp?). It is very common in Bassets.
