I breed bassets. When my mama dog, Sharayah has a litter it is almost like they are mine, especially those I help bring into the world. As everyone knows that has breed dogs (or other animals) sometimes things happen that are beyond the mama's control and the owner's control. I have been breeding bassets since 1999 and have lost 9 little ones (litter before last, we lost all 6 over a 3 week period and the vet doesn't know why) It kills me when I lost one of God's creation. We have buried Sharayah and Mr. Man's little ones in a row next to the woods behind our house and we are making a rose garden over te graves in tribute to them. Their lives may have been short but I know they blessed me. so in memory of all the "litl' bits" as I nick name the pups... thank you for letting me help bring you into the world and allowin gme to hold you as you went to your new homes up there.... you will always hold a place in my heart...

Carol, I'm so sorry that you lost your pups! I do not know anything about breeding but I do know that loosing them would cause a big hole in my heart.

That's aweful Carol. But thanks for posting it here. I breed and so I know what you're saying. We've been VERY very lucky to have lost only one puppy out of two litters. We almost lost one out of this last litter but lucky I was up with Haley when she was having them and saw where she didn't know she had another while cleaning one? She had no idea and so the puppy would have died if I had not broke the sack, cut the cord and got it breating. That puppy was Jasper. Mara's puppy and I know she's so much happier a person and is her family for having Jasper in her life! Jasper's always been special to me for that. So I love that he has a nice home.
It does hurt when you loose them. And it does happen. God only knows why? The one we lost from Hanna's litter was most likely the same reason? Perfect looking puppy but by the time we got home it was cleaned off and dead.

I'm sorry. I lost one in two litters. You could tell something had happened that it stopped growing in the womb prior to birth. I felt awful for the thing and we buried it with a prayer. I can't imagine loosing a whole litter.
