We have had Urmeli for about a month now and I really thaught everything was going fine As we don´t have a kennel we leave her in a room when she has to stay alone. i do not work overhere so the periods of time that no one is at home are not very long!!! The first few times everything was good. Now She starts making the biggest mess when she´s alone. She pees and s****s all over the place - even if we are only gone for a few minutes! I really do not know what to do or where I went wrong When I take her with me and she has to stay in the car everything is fine but it will be too hot for her soon. Help please!

I think the easiest answer would be to purchase a crate. Crate her when you leave. I do this with mine and they have never peed or pooped in their crates. Once you return take her out to potty and praise her to high heavens. She may howl the first few times she is crated, but will get used to the idea. YOU have done nothing wrong. She is just expressing her opinion of being left behind.

The crate worked really well for Scully too. She would never leave any unwelcome surprises when we left her in there. It worked for quite a while.......until she learned how to break out of it!!!! To this day I have no idea how the hell she squeezed out of a locked crate!! After we discovered that she was an escape artist, we just left her in our bedroom and she would have a few accidents but eventually just grew out of it. I think after a while she just learned that we always come back when we leave, and being locked in a room with a turd is no fun

that made me laugh,if scully's poops smell like maxes then i wouldnt want to be locked up with one of them. i have never left max as he complains bitterly, and howls like mad,he has to follow me everywhere,so if i have to go out i get one of my daughters to have him,and so far thats worked a treat. ;D

I feel your pain and understand completely. The best thing that you can do is crate train. I was against it at first but now, I wouldn't have it any other way. Lexie loves her den---this is where she sleeps and plays with toys. She know that if she goes in without a fuss that she will get a treat. If I'm not home, I leave the radio on so she can hear those sounds and not the outdoor sounds such as other dogs barking. I highly recommend it---remember she is just a puppy and this won't last forever.

I totally agree with everyone else and say do the crate training if you can. It not only keeps the messes down in your home, but it also keeps your doggy safe when you're gone. You just never know what a basset will eat that will not come out the other end if you're not watching them! Loretta hates the crate because I didn't crate train her as a pup. She still has accidents in the house. She thinks were punishing her if we make her go into the crate when we are at home. But I do crate her if we all leave the house. She doesn't like it but she does like the rewards we give her when we return. Doolittle on the other hand, goes into his crate on his own when its time to go to bed. He seems to love it. Its like his sanctuary. If you can afford a crate, it's well worth it.

I think the crate is the ticket. It will make her feel safe. Daisy did the same thing. If I ever had to be gone for too long to leave her in her crate, I would put her somewhere small and safe and she would just freak out. Poop EVERYWHERE. She would even do it if I left her shut out of the room while I was taking a shower. Or if I went down to the basement and she was upstairs alone. I think she was so worried and scared to be alone that she lost control, BUT when she is crated, she feels safe and - though she might be sad to be along - she isn't so scared. She is better now about being alone in the kitchen - like on the days I have to work...which I am only just starting to do now. But she still sometimes does it. I really do think it is nerves.
