Hi Lonnie, 2 very nice bassets , I dont know where Westminster kennel Club is to Betty, but perhaps she could contact some one there for a show basset, these 2 are very good representation of the breed, thanks for the pics. Regards Harry.

Yes, I have thought they might be a great source! I just LOVE sports car. He is gorgeous!!! I definantly want a hound that is top quality. I thought maybe I would contact the local Basset Hound Club and try to join. I think that they can probably get me on the right track for at least learning how the shows work, etc. After I become a little more knowledgeable about showing, then I will consider getting my show pup. I would hate to jump in without all the proper information and blow it! LOL. I was wondering how you keep your dogs in such great shape? Lily is just the right size but what do you do to keep their muscle tone in top shape?

Hi Betty, To be quite honest I dont do anything for muscle tone, I should be walking show dogs 2/3 times a week but I dont seem to get the time..It would be great if you could contact a breeder who is useing Sport Car as a stud you could bet he produces some fine show quality pups, I think you are going in the right direction , you dont want to get a pup that is not show quality by jumping in to soon , get to a club and ask many questions and sort out the breeders until you find what you want , you may be able to find some honest person who will help you in finding a suitable puppy , club members in our club will always help new members to select a suitable show puppy, we also help them to keep their puppy in good shape like what to do if they are putting on too much fat, ( bassets tend to get to fat if you dont watch them)Good luck Betty let me know how you get on i will be interested to know, Kind Regards Harry

As far as them being prone to get fat, don't I know it! But then anyone in this family is prone to that anyway..LOL. Even my three male cats are on a "diet" from carrying some extra pounds. I think my son and Lillian are the only ones that are the right size..LOL. I walk her every day as far as she will go. I let her set the pace and distance for the most part so I suppose that I am exercising her enough at least for now. I just love how she looks from every angle and she has the perfect basset figure. Not too fat and not too skinny..lol. Actually, she went to the vet last week and he said that she is in wonderful shape and a terrific size. He thinks she will be on the small side for a Basset but I think that she will probably be about right. I was concerned that he legs might be a little on the long size, but as she is growing, I can see that she isn't getting much taller but does seem to be getting longer. Thank you so much for the advice and I will definantly keep you posted on how things are going in my quest for knowledge of the dog show world..LOL.
