Hi all! I am sure that most if not all of you use a topical flea treatment. I thought I would share with you some thoughts on this.
If you have cats, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, be very careful with letting them interact with your pup for a couple of days after a flea treatment. It is downright deadly to the cat. If your cat grooms your pup or your pup rubs it off onto the floor or furniture before it is dry and your cat licks it or gets it on them while it is wet, it can cause SERIOUS complications and even death. If you have two cats and you apply a treatment to both or one of them, you should also keep them seperated for a couple of days.
I noticed that someone had posted about this on another site and wanted to share as well as give my personal experience.
As you may know, I have three cats. Well, I had treated two of them with a topical treatment made for cats (of course) and isolated them from each other for 24 hours. I kept them in seperate rooms and just let them come out one at a time to eat and potty and have some cuddle time. Well the next night, one of my cats started having seizures. After a 3:00 am trip to the emergency vet and $700 later, it was found that it was the flea treatment that had caused it. More than likely he groomed the other cat and ingested some of the treatment and almost died. As a matter of fact, the vet did think he would probably pass away but luckily he didn't. He is still here but now his system is extremely sensitive and he cannot tolerate any flea treatment or vaccinations. I can just imagine that he would have died for sure if it had been a dog treatment and not one made for cats.
Just thought I would share.
