Hi Everyone, I have a story about a basset rescue that you may be interested in ,. Here is the story of Saddam. In Oz we do not have many rescues as bassets are not dumped very often this is about the 2nd in a few years.
2 weeks ago I received an email from a whippet breeder that he thinks he may of seen a basset disappear down a hole under the old wharfs at docklands on the Yarra river in Melbourne he had tried to get the dog to come out but was unable to do so, he left water and food at the entrance to the hole and over a couple of days the food was taken but no sign of the dog , so he decided it was time to contact the Basset Hound Club Rescue and that was when I received the Email, I immediatly contacted our rescue person to go to the docklands and see what could be done to rescue this basset,. Now at this point I will describe the docklands area ,,it is a unused deserted old docks uninhabited fowl area where no one lives it is surrounded by very busy main roads carrying heavy trucks they are roads that a human would not even cross let aloan a dog it is also close to melbourne CBD. Well on with our rescue ,, Grace our rescue person arrived with her assistant who climbed into the hole , Grace placed a rope loop over the hole to catch whatever came out when her assistant chased it out ,, well out came this big red basset a beautifull boy but in very bad condition, he didnt atempt to bite her, Grace says he looks like he had been living there for up to 6 months may be longer he had been living on sea gulls and what ever else he could find his hole was full of bird feathers, we dont know what he drank as the water here is salty.. He has now gone to to Graces kennels for a lot of TLC and veterinary treatment, He has now put on a few pounds in weight and is slowly being brought back to good health, We already have a new permanent home for him, but it will be some months before he will be ready to go to his new family.. How could anyone just dump a beautifull basset like " Saddam"Grace called him Saddam because she got him out of a hole
Regards Harry
