your welcome. I'm glad to have you as a friend. Your flag looks very pretty hanging there. I will have to come a see it.
I just want to say that I consider everyone on basset friends my family. Since I don't have many family members. Everyone is so nice. I just wished we all could be closer together so we could baby sit, dog sit, and just get together.

It's so nice to have someone to talk too, like Mary, my family is very small. It's a shame we all couldn't get together.I sure would like to see all the babies and the fur kids. If you all lived closer... you would be coming over today for Joe's birthday. I'm fixing his favorite chicken, mashed potatoes, a veggie, biscuits or rolls haven't decided yet and a chocolate cake. He has a job interview today at AFG a local plant, they have great benefits and well start making about what he was before, to start. His friend is helping him and he has a good chance at it, everyone cross fingers. Joe hanging around the house is getting about thin here... Remember girls he is single and we need to find him a wife !!!!!!! no joke... really!!! he an't getting any younger. I generally don't like to put pics of people up ..my daughter has his pic up everywhere so if his pic disappeares its cause I removed him. He would kill us if he seen it.

You sound like a good cook Helen! It cracks me up that you are trying to pawn him off on some poor unsuspecting girl on his birthday though, lol. You know that no girl will be able to compare to Mom, especially after that birthday dinner!

My one shot at match making ended badly! Although I'm still friends with both of them.
He's a good looking guy - if I were 20 years younger.......
Like some of you I have almost no family - and none within 2000 miles. You guys probably know more about me than they do! You're also far less judgemental. Would you beleive some of my relatives think I'm strange for having 9 dogs - 6 of them houndies!!! No wonder we don't have a lot of talk about.

There's a lot to be said for being single! If I knew then what I know now, I might have opted for the single life.

You make him sound like an old man Helen.. How old is he exactly?
As for the single life.. There is nothing wrong with it! At the rate I'm going, I'll be single and childless forever. Not that I'm complaining though, haha.
Chris, I had no idea you had 9 dogs. I only hear about the hounds. Who are the rest of them?
I will gladly share my family with anyone who wants some more family members. I will even pack them up and ship them to you. They get to be more than I can handle at times!

My non-bassets are Chooch, my blue heeler, who I found wandering on the streets where I work about 12 years ago. She is one of the smartest and most loyal dogs I've ever owned Nip was literally left on our doorstep one night about 10 years ago. We live about a mile off the main road, on a dead end street and our property is completely fenced in. I'm sure whoever left Nip knew us, but we've never figured out who! Nip got lost in a blizzard about 3 years ago and we thought we'd never see him again. He showed up after about 5 days and hasn't stepped a paw off the property since. We have NO idea how he survived the storm, but we're so thankful he did! He's a border collie cross. And finally there's Shadow. Soemone dumped him on the side of the road near us (and near a feed store). He wandered in and made himself at home. He's a lab/chow cross. Mostly lab! He plays rabbit for the hounds. He takes off running, slows down a bit so they THINK they can catch him and then he takes off. Wonderful exercise for all of them. Here's a pic of his rear end with Maggie

Chris you have more dogs than I do ...bless your heart ...as for family thinking you are crazy for having so many, how on earth could you not ,when they need you so bad. I think it keeps people that you really don't care that much for away..whats dog hair among real friends..I would rather be around my dogs than a lot of people I know.
Jenn , you are young...Marys daughter is about the same age as you, 10 years from now your life well be so different. Well thats where Joe is now...he needs to make decisions that he well live with at my age ...no parents, no grandparents ...being single is very lonely, not having a wife and children, well mean something because he well then have health problems and he well need real family support. I've lived long enough to see so much loss, if I had not had my children by my side I don't know what I would have done. Think very carefully before you write it out of your life. I'm sorry I got so sober about this,I've watched my daughter try so hard to have a family and I know she would take care of Joe if he needed it..thankfully they are close.. another b-day is coming up can't you tell..........
Dear Mary...this all started because I loved my flag so much and everyone stops and says how pretty it is...you are truly a very generous person... God bless you...I know you are so worried about the puppy...sending good thoughts your way. I so wished we lived closer so I could help you.
