In Loving Memory of HarryI’m sorry to have to pass this on to everyone. I received an email from Wendy, Harry’s wife this morning telling me that Harry had passed away in his sleep on December 30th. I know everyone hearts are as heavy as my own from this news. Harry was a wonderful man and a very important part of our lives here. We could always turn to Harry for help with our four legged loved ones. He will be surely missed by all of us. It comforts me to know that for now on, any Basset who Crosses the Bridge will have a friendly face with a warm heart and open arms to great them and care for them when they reach the other side. Please take a moment to write Wendy and let her know how much he meant to each of us. God Bless him and his family. Here is the email I received that has more details. . . Hi Lonnie... this is Wendy Harry's wife..... Lonnie it’s with a very heavy heart that I have to pass on the news of Harry's sudden death on 30th December...he just didn't wake up that Friday morning...we still don't know the cause, it will be several weeks before we get the coroner's report...he wasn't ill and he didn't know anything about it...it just happened in his sleep. The funeral was last Friday and over 250 people attended...he would have been so chuffed, many people stood up and paid tributes to him. I'm so sorry to have to tell you this Lonnie but he thought such a lot of you. If you need to reply to this email use my addy which is wendysanders@optusnet.com.au Wendy

Oh no. I don't even know what to say. I can't even begin to imagine the pain his family is going through. This is absolutely awful.
Thank you for letting us know, Lonnie. I will keep his wife and family in my thoughts.

Just this last Wednesday he was all the talk at my house as we had received this huge Thomas Train set that he had sent to Donovan way back in October.
He sent it by boat and told me back then that it would take a couple months. When we got the package I found out why. Just by boat it cost him $49.00. I'm sure that Harry paid for this himself.
Now I wish I could tell him how much joy that train brought to him. And to the whole family that someone clear across the world would care so much for a little boy he never even met to send it.

Thanks Pam. I've already spoken with Harry this morning.
And it just occurred to me that Harry was able to watch Donovan open his gift from "Papa's Basset Friend" What could be better.

I truely believe he was able to watch it. We should also all be comfortaded to know he died in his sleep. That is a very peaceful way to go.

Yes it was Pam. Though I'm heart broken that he didn't have a chance to tell his family good bye. Or that his family didn't have the chance to tell him. Is that wrong? Please tell me it is. I've tried all morning to find the good in this.
The only time I'm not crying is when I'm angry at what a crappy year that was.
I do know this in my heart. Harry was well loved by so many people all over the world. The true measure of a great man is the friends and loved ones he leaves behind.

I keep rereading this and I am just so sad. It is just so hard for me to believe. I didn't know Harry very well, but he always had great advice and I loved seeing pictures of his Bassets. He was (and always will be) such a great man. I'm heartbroken.
Lonnie, if you need anyone to talk to, please send me an e-mail. I will listen if you need to vent or if you just need someone for your words to go through.

Oh Lonnie, let's think about this. If he could have said good bye that would have meant that he was diagnosied with a terminal illness. All the different emotions, fears etc. a person has to go through with a terminal illness, do you think he would have preferred that over dying in his sleep? I guess we really won't ever know.
I bet he is saying good bye to his family. If they listen really hard they will feel him around saying goodbye.

This is very sad news, indeed. My heartfelt sympathies for Wendy and his entire family. I didn't know him very well but it was obvious his love for the hounds. A sad loss.
